An inspiring keynote to kick\u00a0things off \u2013 \u2018Rising Stronger\u2019\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\nAfter a formal Opening of Conference from Stephen McCann, ACPME Chair, we welcomed Dr Andy Cope back to the ACPME stage. Those who attended the conference at Dunston Hall will remember Andy\u2019s passion for life.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The Dr of Happiness, well-being expert and \u2018recovering academic\u2019, gave another evidence-based session \u2018with the big words surgically removed and replaced with common sense\u2019. He presented us with doable principles in a fun way.<\/span><\/p>\nAndy explained the challenge as quite straight-forward \u2013 to raise your \u2018new normal\u2019 to world class.\u00a0<\/span>He suggested that \u2018Rising Stronger\u2019 is about showing up to work as your best self. Lose the doubt, let go of any negativity and come back fully charged. Presenting to slides like \u2018Don\u2019t be a dick!\u2019 had the room chuckling and contemplating how they approach life, including how we can unmute ourselves in real life to join the 2% who are happiest and most successful.<\/span><\/p>\n#ACPMEConf22 was underway and in high spirits after Andy\u2019s inspiring introduction.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/strong><\/p>\nGetting to know you<\/strong><\/p>\nAfter the Exhibition opened, delegates had a chance to introduce themselves and to meet industry colleagues in a short \u2018Getting to know you\u2019 session.\u00a0<\/span>This added to the newcomers\u2019 welcome and provided an opportunity to touch on some of the challenges and developments at units since the last face-to-face event.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/span><\/p>\nSuppliers\u2019 Showcase 1<\/strong><\/p>\nBefore lunch we heard from three of our Platinum sponsors. David Bowering, EPS Channel Sales Manager, was first to speak. He presented under the title \u2018Does your Print Department have Vision?\u2019, before handing over to Malcolm Smith who explained how Konica Minolta Business Solutions can \u2018Ignite Print Possibilities\u2019. Mike Collins, from Antalis UK, followed with a case study from ACPME members Cardiff Metropolitan University about \u2018Refreshing and refurbishing interiors with Koala d\u00e9cor materials\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span><\/p>\nSuppliers\u2019 Showcase 2\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\nAfter lunch we heard from the rest of our Platinum sponsors. Kevin O\u2019Donnell of Xerox UK was characteristically lively. His presentation \u2018Going Beyond CMYK\u2019 talked about driving effective, personalised communications to acquire, inform and serve students.\u00a0<\/span>Next we heard from a new sponsor Joanne Bass, MD from XL Displays. Jo explained how \u2018Customer Experience\u2019 is what sets her company apart.\u00a0<\/span>The session concluded with Nick Daniels of Ricoh UK presenting on \u2018Marketing Technology in Higher Education\u2019 with a take on \u2018How to communicate effectively throughout the student journey\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span><\/p>\nSomething new:\u00a0<\/strong>Breakout sessions<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\nWe\u2019re always thinking about how to make sessions as relevant as possible to all delegates. This year, in an effort to continue to grow our creative membership and to allow our print specialists to stay focused on what matters most to them we split into breakout specialist groups.<\/span><\/p>\nCREATIVE BREAKOUT<\/span><\/p>\nIn this session, Mark Wood from <\/span>Dynamix Training<\/span> gave our designers, photographers and videographers a tour of Photoshop and exploring the application\u2019s interface, smart work-flows and a demonstration of how Camera Raw data can be preserved all the way to print production, via Adobe InDesign.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mark also touched on cloning and healing tools of smart objects, creating monochrome images and composites and soft proofing with an emphasis on non-destructive editing.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>His presentation concluded by highlighting new features, and developments currently in public beta.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\nPRINT BREAKOUT<\/span><\/p>\nAnthony Midgley and Leighann Carlton from the Procurement Unit at the University of Leicester opened the print breakout. Together they shared tips on dealing with colleagues in procurement departments \u2013 in particular for fleet and print room equipment. Useful to hear how processes work best from another point of view.\u00a0<\/span>Helen Clarke, Print and Post Services Manager from Loughborough University followed sharing highlights from their procurement journeys. <\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\nAfter the break, Dawn Reid from the <\/span>British Printing Industries Federation<\/span> (BPIF) gave an interesting talk on Health & Safety. Yes, you read that right!\u00a0<\/span>Dawn highlighted some of the considerations and regulations that occur when working in the printroom and around campus. She explained how the BPIF can help with templates and advice to save time and to minimise risk \u2013 asking members to share their experiences and answering

Not a dry eye in the house!\u00a0Andy Grant keynote:\u00a0<\/span>\u2018Thriving Through Adversity\u2019\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\nTuesday started with an uplifting and deeply emotional keynote.<\/span><\/p>\nAndy Grant explained how he\u2019s been through more than most have in their lifetime. From losing his mother aged 12, to joining the Royal Marines, to serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, to being injured by an IED, becoming medically discharged and consequently making the decision himself to have his leg amputated.<\/span><\/p>\nAndy shared his story about how he went on to become the world\u2019s fastest single leg amputee in the world over 10km by clocking a time of 37:17 and climbed some of the world\u2019s highest mountains.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>He explained that life will put you in all kinds of challenging situations, but it need not determine you as a person \u2013 it\u2019s how you react to these challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span><\/p>\nRound table discussions\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\nWe know from previous conference feedback that members particularly value discussion sessions.<\/span><\/p>\nOnce again, we broke the delegates up into their specialist groups. Three round table discussions happened simultaneously followed by
group feedback.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/span><\/p>\nAn afternoon of\u00a0breakout sessions<\/strong><\/p>\nCREATIVE BREAKOUT<\/span><\/p>\nIn this session, Andrew Devis from <\/span>Dynamix Training<\/span> looked at some of the creative tools in Adobe Premiere Pro that can save time when dealing with audio issues. He moved on to looking at the colour grading tools which help give impact to the productions.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\nAfter the break , Andrew introduced After Effects and looked at design considerations\u00a0<\/span><\/span>when using AI files in AE, how to animate them and some of the tools available. Then, he showcased tools for text animation, concluding with motion tracking, mask tracking and camera tracking.<\/span><\/p>\nPRINT BREAKOUT<\/span><\/p>\nIn the first print session Jonathan Tame introduced Two Sides Paper and presented on the \u2018Myths and facts\u2019. He explained how ACPME are members of Two Sides with access to sustainability facts and support materials.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\nSeveral member presentations followed. Richard Ashdown, Cardiff Metropolitan University\u00a0 <\/span>talked through how their team won print Service of the Year (2019!), before Ian Hickman and Glyn Johnson from the University of Leicester detailed how wide format printing has transformed both their business financials and Leicester\u2019s campus. Hard not to be bowled-over by the scale and impact of their endeavours.<\/span><\/p>\nThe print session concluded with Brendan Perring from <\/span>Independent Print Industries Association<\/span> (IPIA) giving an insightful presentation on \u2018Twinned industries\u2019. Again we subdivided for a creative \u2018Show and Tell\u2019 and for the print managers to experience a practical, hands-on session.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\nWhile the photographers and video producers geeked out over their \u2018can\u2019t live without kit\u2019 and had the opportunity to try out what each other had brought and discuss it\u2019s merits, Gethin Herbert of Cardiff Metropolitan University and Mike Collins, of Antalis UK ran a hands-on print session providing expert tips to boost members\u2019 confidence working with vinyl and films.<\/span><\/p>\nWe\u2019d love to know what delegates thought of these focused specialist break outs.<\/span><\/p>\nKeynote: \u2018Creative Cloud\u00a0<\/span>Express: Getting the most<\/span>from Adobe\u2019s Creative Suite\u2019<\/span><\/p>\nIt\u2019s always good to finish with a crescendo. Who better to bring the conference to a close than ACPME favourite Tony Harmer.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>After helping us at two virtual events through the pandemic is was fantastic to welcome The Design Ninja back to the #ACPMEFamily in-person.<\/span><\/p>\nAs always, Tony blew our minds, lifting the hood on Adobe\u2019s Creative Cloud to reveal the phenomenal power of Creative Cloud Express. After the isolation of several COVID-19 years, seeing old friends and making new ones in-person was a much-needed tonic.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”DAY ONE” open_toggle_text_color=”#2EA3F2″ _builder_version=”4.9.2″ _module_preset=”default” toggle_font=”|600|||||||” open=”off”]<\/p>\n An inspiring keynote to kick\u00a0things off \u2013 \u2018Rising Stronger\u2019\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n After a formal Opening of Conference from Stephen McCann, ACPME Chair, we welcomed Dr Andy Cope back to the ACPME stage. Those who attended the conference at Dunston Hall will remember Andy\u2019s passion for life.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The Dr of Happiness, well-being expert and \u2018recovering academic\u2019, gave another evidence-based session \u2018with the big words surgically removed and replaced with common sense\u2019. He presented us with doable principles in a fun way.<\/span><\/p>\n Andy explained the challenge as quite straight-forward \u2013 to raise your \u2018new normal\u2019 to world class.\u00a0<\/span>He suggested that \u2018Rising Stronger\u2019 is about showing up to work as your best self. Lose the doubt, let go of any negativity and come back fully charged. Presenting to slides like \u2018Don\u2019t be a dick!\u2019 had the room chuckling and contemplating how they approach life, including how we can unmute ourselves in real life to join the 2% who are happiest and most successful.<\/span><\/p>\n #ACPMEConf22 was underway and in high spirits after Andy\u2019s inspiring introduction.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n Getting to know you<\/strong><\/p>\n After the Exhibition opened, delegates had a chance to introduce themselves and to meet industry colleagues in a short \u2018Getting to know you\u2019 session.\u00a0<\/span>This added to the newcomers\u2019 welcome and provided an opportunity to touch on some of the challenges and developments at units since the last face-to-face event.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Suppliers\u2019 Showcase 1<\/strong><\/p>\n Before lunch we heard from three of our Platinum sponsors. David Bowering, EPS Channel Sales Manager, was first to speak. He presented under the title \u2018Does your Print Department have Vision?\u2019, before handing over to Malcolm Smith who explained how Konica Minolta Business Solutions can \u2018Ignite Print Possibilities\u2019. Mike Collins, from Antalis UK, followed with a case study from ACPME members Cardiff Metropolitan University about \u2018Refreshing and refurbishing interiors with Koala d\u00e9cor materials\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Suppliers\u2019 Showcase 2\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n After lunch we heard from the rest of our Platinum sponsors. Kevin O\u2019Donnell of Xerox UK was characteristically lively. His presentation \u2018Going Beyond CMYK\u2019 talked about driving effective, personalised communications to acquire, inform and serve students.\u00a0<\/span>Next we heard from a new sponsor Joanne Bass, MD from XL Displays. Jo explained how \u2018Customer Experience\u2019 is what sets her company apart.\u00a0<\/span>The session concluded with Nick Daniels of Ricoh UK presenting on \u2018Marketing Technology in Higher Education\u2019 with a take on \u2018How to communicate effectively throughout the student journey\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Something new:\u00a0<\/strong>Breakout sessions<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n We\u2019re always thinking about how to make sessions as relevant as possible to all delegates. This year, in an effort to continue to grow our creative membership and to allow our print specialists to stay focused on what matters most to them we split into breakout specialist groups.<\/span><\/p>\n CREATIVE BREAKOUT<\/span><\/p>\n In this session, Mark Wood from <\/span>Dynamix Training<\/span> gave our designers, photographers and videographers a tour of Photoshop and exploring the application\u2019s interface, smart work-flows and a demonstration of how Camera Raw data can be preserved all the way to print production, via Adobe InDesign.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mark also touched on cloning and healing tools of smart objects, creating monochrome images and composites and soft proofing with an emphasis on non-destructive editing.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>His presentation concluded by highlighting new features, and developments currently in public beta.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n PRINT BREAKOUT<\/span><\/p>\n Anthony Midgley and Leighann Carlton from the Procurement Unit at the University of Leicester opened the print breakout. Together they shared tips on dealing with colleagues in procurement departments \u2013 in particular for fleet and print room equipment. Useful to hear how processes work best from another point of view.\u00a0<\/span>Helen Clarke, Print and Post Services Manager from Loughborough University followed sharing highlights from their procurement journeys. <\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n After the break, Dawn Reid from the <\/span>British Printing Industries Federation<\/span> (BPIF) gave an interesting talk on Health & Safety. Yes, you read that right!\u00a0<\/span>Dawn highlighted some of the considerations and regulations that occur when working in the printroom and around campus. She explained how the BPIF can help with templates and advice to save time and to minimise risk \u2013 asking members to share their experiences and answering [\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”DAY TWO” open=”off” open_toggle_text_color=”#2EA3F2″ _builder_version=”4.9.2″ _module_preset=”default” toggle_font=”|600|||||||”]<\/p>\n Not a dry eye in the house!\u00a0Andy Grant keynote:\u00a0<\/span>\u2018Thriving Through Adversity\u2019\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Tuesday started with an uplifting and deeply emotional keynote.<\/span><\/p>\n Andy Grant explained how he\u2019s been through more than most have in their lifetime. From losing his mother aged 12, to joining the Royal Marines, to serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, to being injured by an IED, becoming medically discharged and consequently making the decision himself to have his leg amputated.<\/span><\/p>\n Andy shared his story about how he went on to become the world\u2019s fastest single leg amputee in the world over 10km by clocking a time of 37:17 and climbed some of the world\u2019s highest mountains.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>He explained that life will put you in all kinds of challenging situations, but it need not determine you as a person \u2013 it\u2019s how you react to these challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Round table discussions\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n We know from previous conference feedback that members particularly value discussion sessions.<\/span><\/p>\n Once again, we broke the delegates up into their specialist groups. Three round table discussions happened simultaneously followed by <\/span><\/p>\n An afternoon of\u00a0breakout sessions<\/strong><\/p>\n CREATIVE BREAKOUT<\/span><\/p>\n In this session, Andrew Devis from <\/span>Dynamix Training<\/span> looked at some of the creative tools in Adobe Premiere Pro that can save time when dealing with audio issues. He moved on to looking at the colour grading tools which help give impact to the productions.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n After the break , Andrew introduced After Effects and looked at design considerations\u00a0<\/span><\/span>when using AI files in AE, how to animate them and some of the tools available. Then, he showcased tools for text animation, concluding with motion tracking, mask tracking and camera tracking.<\/span><\/p>\n PRINT BREAKOUT<\/span><\/p>\n In the first print session Jonathan Tame introduced Two Sides Paper and presented on the \u2018Myths and facts\u2019. He explained how ACPME are members of Two Sides with access to sustainability facts and support materials.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Several member presentations followed. Richard Ashdown, Cardiff Metropolitan University\u00a0 <\/span>talked through how their team won print Service of the Year (2019!), before Ian Hickman and Glyn Johnson from the University of Leicester detailed how wide format printing has transformed both their business financials and Leicester\u2019s campus. Hard not to be bowled-over by the scale and impact of their endeavours.<\/span><\/p>\n The print session concluded with Brendan Perring from <\/span>Independent Print Industries Association<\/span> (IPIA) giving an insightful presentation on \u2018Twinned industries\u2019. Brendan brought us up-to-date with industry trends and offered his thoughts on how collaboration between commercial and in-house print can foster mutual success.<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”HANDS-ON WEDNESDAY” open_toggle_text_color=”#2EA3F2″ _builder_version=”4.9.2″ _module_preset=”default” toggle_font=”|600|||||||” open=”off”]<\/p>\n Again we subdivided for a creative \u2018Show and Tell\u2019 and for the print managers to experience a practical, hands-on session.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n While the photographers and video producers geeked out over their \u2018can\u2019t live without kit\u2019 and had the opportunity to try out what each other had brought and discuss it\u2019s merits, Gethin Herbert of Cardiff Metropolitan University and Mike Collins, of Antalis UK ran a hands-on print session providing expert tips to boost members\u2019 confidence working with vinyl and films.<\/span><\/p>\n We\u2019d love to know what delegates thought of these focused specialist break outs.<\/span><\/p>\n Keynote: \u2018Creative Cloud\u00a0<\/span>Express: Getting the most<\/span>from Adobe\u2019s Creative Suite\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n It\u2019s always good to finish with a crescendo. Who better to bring the conference to a close than ACPME favourite Tony Harmer.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>After helping us at two virtual events through the pandemic is was fantastic to welcome The Design Ninja back to the #ACPMEFamily in-person.<\/span><\/p>\n As always, Tony blew our minds, lifting the hood on Adobe\u2019s Creative Cloud to reveal the phenomenal power of Creative Cloud Express.
