Creatives start the Super SIG week with a BOOM\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Monday kicked-off with ACPME favourite Tony Harmer taking a deep dive into Adobe Acrobat \u2013 showing some of the other features that 95% of users are missing out on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mark Udall, of Warwick Print, then demonstrated how to set up Indesign documents to have a better chance of passing all accessibility checks, before giving an inspiring talk about how his team have adjusted skill sets to deliver creative design solutions for screen rather than print with a demo of a project in After Effects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Adam King <\/span>also picked up on the theme of After Effects and of expanding digital design capabilities to become a creative ‘one-stop-shop’, showing excellent examples of the University of Leicester’s output that followed modest investment in personalised Adobe-accredited training.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another masterclass followed, with Paul Atkins sharing how Loughborough University use InDesign data merge and shared Excel spreadsheets to populate design layouts and accelerate larger jobs. <\/span><\/p>\n

The day closed with Richard Barrett, ex <\/span>design studio manager of Glasgow Caledonian University, exploring a flexible and cost-effective digital document solution.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Print Super SIG makes a BIG impression\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The Print SIG started with whistle-stop tours of Birmingham City University, Cardiff Met University and Nottingham Trent University\u2019s print unit. Each manager talked about their capabilities, services, and new services being added.<\/p>\n

This was followed by Chris Myers from Arizona State University who spoke about their exciting large format experiences. He showed an enterprising range of projects \u2013\u00a0 from graduate ‘yard signs’, to stadium fan cut-outs printing onto a pre-cut substrate using a Fuji flatbed printer. Watch out for those being sold to alumni at our sporty institutions soon!<\/p>\n

Our friends at Ricoh then gave a talk about marketing services and how print rooms are adapting to new ways of working.<\/p>\n

To cap a fine afternoon, University of South Wales presented on how they utilise Instagram and Twitter to market their services to students as well as local businesses.<\/p>\n

Zoom discussions ranged from new products and services, such as scanning, to making marketing and online storefronts.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Great images and inspiring stories\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n

What better way to start than with more magical wizardry from Tony Harmer. Once again we were wowed by a full on ninja delve into Photoshop and Premiere Pro’s neatest new features.<\/span><\/p>\n

This was followed by fast-paced short presentations from some of the sig group members on what they have been up to since Lockdown. These included Phil Wilson and Jon Shears from Loughborough University, Alec Millward from University of Nottingham, Nic Delves-Broughton from University of Bath, Paul Shields from University of York, Fergus Connor from RGU Aberdeen and the SIG Chair Stephen McCann representing University of Glasgow.<\/p>\n

Next up was Dave Parry from Canon who gave the expert lowdown on the Canon R5 and R6 mirrorless camera solutions.<\/p>\n

Finally, we shot across the Atlantic to hear the inspiring story of The University Photographers Association of America. We’re hoping to emulate the success of their 60-year-old association. https:\/\/upaa.org\/<\/a>. With well-organised and inspiring events like this SIG we’ve got every chance.<\/span><\/p>\n
