Awards nomination for ‘Best team member who went above during Covid-19’<\/strong><\/p>\n Cardiff Metropolitan University was closed to all but the most essential staff in late March. Shortly after this the university decided to furlough everyone eligible to save money where possible \u2013 all staff, including the print manager, were on full time furlough. I\u2019d like to nominate Nigel Bowles for this award. Nigel works part time for the print unit and afternoons within the school of art. Because of these two roles Nigel was ineligible for the furlough scheme.<\/p>\n For the entire month of May Nigel ran the print unit alone. With the rest of us on furlough he couldn\u2019t even reach out for a bit of quick advice, as we\u2019d all been instructed not to use any university systems (email, Teams etc) while on furlough. During this time the Estates team were beginning to prepare the campus for the return of students & staff so demand on the print service was high, with a high volume of print & cut vinyl in particular.<\/p>\n Nigel has continued to be the consistent presence within the print unit through much of the year, as even when other staff returned to work it was on reduced hours.<\/p>\n I think Nigel deserves recognition for putting himself at risk, having a positive attitude throughout and consistently running large jobs alone. Many university staff have commented at the time \u2013 \u2018I don\u2019t know where we\u2019d be without Nigel\u2019 \u2013 and it isn\u2019t an understatement to say his work during this time ensured a safe return for many students and staff.
