TOTAL REFIT FOR OLIVER’S ARMY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS
Great to see the #ACPMEFamily networking
Members of the University of Sheffield Print & Creative Services on a recent visit to the University of Leeds Print and Mail room – based beneath a building with 25 lecture theatres.
Enjoy visiting other ACPME teams?
Great news, at #ACPMEConf23 Mark Udall and the University of Warwick will be opening their doors for you to visit while you are nearby. Two birds with one stone… Book your place now.
The University of Leeds recently installed a swathe of new Konica Minolta and Duplo kit after putting its print centre refit out to tender, alongside UoL’s IT department that wanted to integrate the univeristy’s wider printer and copier fleet into a single solution.
Ollie’s Print and Mail team selected Konica Minolta’s AccurioPress C12000 and C7100 colour presses and two AccurioPress 6136 black and white presses.
To finish more work in-house, UoL added a range of Duplo equipment including an iSaddle 5.0 saddle-stitcher, the UK’s first DC-648 multi-finisher, and a PFi Blade B2 digital cutting table.
In a recent discussion with PrintWeek, Ollie explained:
“We turned most of the old machines off on the Friday, and started installing the new ones on the Monday. We never shut down production, so it was chaos.”
“It’s a challenging environment to do an install, and we had to significantly rearrange it — but the Konica engineers were great, the Duplo engineers too. Everyone worked around each other.”
After the visit by the University of Sheffield, Michelle Barraclough commented:
“It was great major investment in in-house new print production and finishing equipment at Leeds. Their whizzy slitter/cutter/creaser looked particularly versatile and easy to use. Coupled with their new presses it should really boost productivity and allow their team to offer a wider range of jobs.“

A beautiful soul full of light, integrity, kindness, and courage
Fergus – A bright star… sadly winked out
It is with great fondness we remember Fergus Connor, Gray’s School of Art Photographic Technician, who sadly passed away prematurely and unexpectedly on Friday 31 March.
We all met and enjoyed Fergus’s good humour and support for ACPME when lockdown was on and will remember with great fondness his black/white/grey presentation at one of our digital events.
I am sad I never got to meet Fergus in person and it should serve as a reminder to keep in touch and to try to attend any ACPME in person events.
Please feel free to add to Fergus’ memory page.

Attendance is free of charge to members & they’ll keep you fed and full of coffee.

AN EXAMPLE OF TWO SIDES EXPOSING DIRTY GREENWASH
Those who attended our 2022 conference at Belton Woods will remember Jonathan Tame of Two Sides explaining how they work to separate myths from facts when it comes to the sustainability of paper on behalf of the print industry.
This story made it to BBC Radio 4 and is just one example of their anti-greenwash endeavours.
Don’t forget you can get Two Sides resources to help you on the community website here.
