About the 2024 theme: Influencing for success – #1BigThing
We’ve all got #1BigThing we want to talk about
Whether that 1 Big Thing is how to run a successful print tender, how to do a lot with a little, how to generate immersive creative content, how to influence uber-sceptical, digital native, Gen-Z prospective students to apply to our courses, how to get funding for additional staff, how to get buy-in from senior management…
More than ever, we need to demonstrate results. We need to be positive. We need people to understand our objectives/purpose and to take people with us on our journeys. We need to grow our sphere of influence.
Without sufficient influence we are working in vacuums and we are unable to gain the investment needed to action our best plans. We need to become influencers.
Influence leads to better feedback, to wider recognition, to progress and to greater support.
Influencing doesn’t mean posting thousands of heavily-filtered selfies.
The conference was a fantastic experience, even though it was hard work. The days were long – attending talks and getting involved in group activities and discussions – while making new friends and networking. I made so many new contacts and learned so much. I’ve been in the industry since I was 15, so nearly 30 years, and I made more useful contacts at the ACPME Conference than I’d made over all those previous years. I will definitely go again, if I get the opportunity, and I really hope I do.

Hannah Milway, Head of Creative & Print Services, University of Reading – Member led session
My ‘One Big Thing’ is Steering a joined-up ship.
I’ll be sharing tips on how we keep quality and purchasing control for both internal production and for external contractors (designers, printers, photographers) under one roof. I’ll touch on designing with our production equipment in mind, key relationships, the University’s imagebank and how sub-brands and templates work in practice.
Kat Keay, Head of Student Recruitment and Creative Services, Univeristy of Plymouth – Member led session
My ‘One Big Thing’ is Moving to Happy Mondays.
We are currently rolling out Monday.com across our directorate as a single workflow platform for all teams. We have used it in design and print for nearly 5 years and couldn’t live without it, so we have now committed to it for all of Marketing and Communications. It is ensuring we are all working together and being more efficient with each team’s output and collaborating on projects. As a flexible platform it helps creative teams (we use for design, print, photography and film), marketing teams, planning and analytics, estates maintenance teams, IT services etc.
We’re working with a Monday.com implementation manager now and should be fully operational by the conference with experiences to share.
Here’s what a couple of last year’s delegates had to say
I found it absolutely amazing. The people are so friendly and helpful. I feel like I’ve got this family that I never knew I had. It’s been brilliant. Love it!

What an amazing event! It was fabulous! So great to meet a whole range of new people and to catch up with some old faces too. The venue was fantastic! Really enjoyed it to the full. The talks were very informative and learned a good few new things. So great to have our North American cousins giving a talk too, nice to see how similar things are – evenon a different continent. The entertainment was brilliant and all such good fun. Great to meet suppliers old and new. Food great. Rooms great. Venue fab. Event wonderful. 10/10 from me. Well done the ACPME team!
